The organization of the Student Activities Manual (SAM) parallels that of the student text. Activities corresponding to each Tema in the textbook recycle and reinforce the vocabulary and grammar presented in the textbook. The Diario at the end of the activities for Temas 2 and 4 guides students in writing paragraphs on the topics of the chapter. As in the textbook, the communicative nature of activities has been maintained so that students are required to think about the meaning of what they are writing, and grammatical forms are not practiced without relating them to meaning. The order of the activities follows directly the order of presentation of vocabulary and grammar in the corresponding Tema of the textbook, so that instructors who cover only part of a Tema during a class can easily assign the matching activities from that Tema of the SAM. As in the textbook, the final Tema of the SAM reviews material from throughout the chapter contextualized in a real-life setting. This SAM volume corresponds to Volume 1 of the Hoy día textbook.

The Student Activities Manual (SAM), thoroughly revised for this edition, includes workbook activities together with audio- and video-based activities, all designed to provide extensive practice of the vocabulary, grammar, culture and skills introduced in each chapter. The organization of these materials now parallels that of the student text, with an "A primera vista" section followed by "En accion" video activities, "Funciones y Formas," "Mosaicos," and "Enfoque" "cultural." A new "Repaso" section in each chapter provides additional activities designed to help students review the material of the chapter as well as to prepare for tests. "

The new Student Activities Manual includes both workbook and lab manual materials in a single convenient volume, with all materials for a given chapter grouped together, saving students money and simplifying navigation. The answer key with answers to all activities is available separately. The Mosaicos Workbook parallels the organization of the text and provides more reading comprehension activities, sentence building and completion exercises, fill-ins, realia and art-based activities as well as composition exercises. Instructors may choose to assign these activities as homework and use them to reinforce class lessons. Each chapter of the Mosaicos Lab Manual contains activities based on recordings of native speakers in situations thematically related to the corresponding chapters in the text. The listening material for the Lab Manual, the student audio for the in-text listening activities, and recordings of all the text's active vocabulary is contained on the Audio Program CDs or cassettes and is provided free to labs upon adoption of Mosaicos. The scripts for the audio program are provided in the Instructor's Resource Manual.
