Youth development is intended to "make a difference". The concept is not simple. It is important that the concept of youth development is not over simplified just to make it more easily digested. I have said in other forums that it is important that the concept is not merely equated to an existing set of youth development programs. The concept must be maintained as a rich source of ideas and possibilities.

This handbook examines positive youth development (PYD) in youth and emerging adults from an international perspective. It focuses on large and underrepresented cultural groups across six continents within a strengths-based conception of adolescence that considers all youth as having assets.
