The Kent family faces internal clashes as the Civil War ignites—from the #1 New York Times–bestselling author of North and South. In the hellish years of the Civil War, the Kent family faces its greatest trials yet. Louis, the devious son of the late Amanda Kent, is in control of the dynasty—and of its seemingly inevitable collapse. His cousin Jephtha Kent, meanwhile, backs the abolitionist cause, while his sons remain devoted Southerners. As the country fractures around the Kents, John Jakes introduces characters that include some of the most famous Americans of this defining era. Spanning the full breadth of the Civil War—from the brutal frontlines in the South to the political tangle in Washington—The Titans chronicles two struggles for identity: the country’s and the Kents’. This ebook features an illustrated biography of John Jakes including rare images from the author’s personal collection.

Kaleo is found unconscious with his dead brother, Vincent lying on him on a blood soaked beach by Hanaeda, an extremely powerful member of the nokto tribe. Hanaeda takes him to the village elder Reiko, who heals Kaleo using his abilities while also looking through Kaleo's memories. Reiko discovers the soul of his former master, Lucian, the calamity, lives inside of Kaleo while also finding out Kaleo's true identity. After recovering Kaleo finally wakes up to Reiko telling Kaleo that he is to be hidden from the rest of the world since they believe him dead as well as his brother. Reiko then takes Kaleo into the farplane, death's domain where the Nokto draw their power from, and shows him what happened before he was found. Kaleo watches him and his brother escape to his father, the king, murdered. Kaleo must now find his place in the world as he trains under the unwilling, Hanaeda. Kaleo soon finds himself mixed in with supernatural beings such as the gatekeeper, a being that ferries soul's from the lifeplane to the farplane, as well as hearing lucian speak to him. As Kaleo gets older he makes friends and tries his best to fit it all while becoming an extremely powerful and adept warrior, battling pirates, legendary creatures and powerful foes. Phonics for Pupils with Special Educational Needs is a complete, structured, multisensory programme for teaching reading and spelling, making it fun and accessible for all. This fantastic seven-part resource offers a refreshingly simple approach to the teaching of phonics, alongside activities to develop auditory and visual perceptual skills. Specifically designed to meet the needs of pupils of any age with special educational needs, the books break down phonics into manageable core elements and provide a huge wealth of resources to support teachers in teaching reading and spelling. Book 1: Building Basics introduces basic sounds and explores their relationship with letters. It focuses on sounds and letters where there is a simple 1:1 correspondence between the two, and explores the sounds in simple words that follow the pattern of vowel-consonant or consonant-vowel-consonant. Sounds are grouped into seven sets, with each set containing more than 50 engaging activities, including: sound story, dynamic blending, reading race, spot the word and spelling challenge. Thorough guidance is provided on how to deliver each activity, as well as a lesson planner template, handy word lists and posters for teachers and teaching assistants to use to support learning. Each book in the series gradually builds on children’s understanding of sounds and letters and provides scaffolded support for children to learn about every sound in the English language. Offering tried and tested material which can be photocopied for each use, this is an invaluable resource to simplify phonics teaching for teachers and teaching assistants and provide fun new ways of learning phonics for all children. This book is accompanied by a companion resource, 'Phonics for Pupils with Complex SEND ', to be used alongside the Phonics for Pupils with Special Educational Needs programme. The activities from Books 1-6 of the programme are adapted to be accessible for non-verbal pupils, including AAC users, and those with physical disabilities.
