Many people in today's world have a difficult time justifying the thought of God's sovereignty in our troubled world. Pink tries to answer such questions by showing that God is in control in creation and salvation, how that works with humanity's free will and finally how we should react in these dark times.

Pink unpacks the theology of the sovereignty of God for us in a way few others have before or after him. Pink dives into Scripture not only to define the sovereignty of God; he goes on to help us apply the doctrine to various aspects of our lives. In the following pages an attempt has been made to examine anew in the light of God's Word some of the profoundest questions which can engage the human mind. Oth¬ers have grappled with these mighty problems in days gone by and from their labors we are the gainers. While mak¬ing no claim for originality the writer, nevertheless, has endeavored to examine and deal with his subject from an entirely independent viewpoint. We have studied diligently the writings of such men as Augustine and Acquinas, Calvin and Melancthon, Jonathan Edwards and Ralph Erskine, Andrew Fuller and Robert Haldane.* And sad it is to think that these eminent and honored names are almost entirely unknown to the present generation. Though, of course, we do not endorse all their conclusions, yet we gladly acknowledge our deep indebtedness to their works. We have purposely refrained from quoting freely from these deeply taught theologians, because we desired that the faith of our readers should stand not in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. For this reason we have quoted freely from the Scriptures and have sought to furnish proof texts for every statement we have advanced. Arthur Walkington Pink was an English Christian evangelist and Biblical scholar known for his staunchly Calvinist and Puritan-like teachings. Though born to Christian parents, prior to conversion he migrated into a Theosophical society (an occult gnostic group popular in England during that time), and quickly rose in prominence within their ranks. His conversion came from his father's patient admonitions from Scripture. It was the verse, Proverbs 14:12, 'there is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death,' which particularly struck his heart and compelled him to renounce Theosophy and follow Jesus.

This is the unabridged version of Author Pink's original The Sovereignty of God. And faces the real issues facing those who profess Christianity. The bible is very clear as to the sovereignty of God invert aspect of our lives, in creation, providence, and redemption but so very few people are able to grasp the reality and profound implications of this fact. This book demonstrates that scripture clearly teaches God has predesigned all things. It treats the subject of reprobation that the Banner of Truth edition omits. It clearly teaches God has and chosen to save a vast number of people to obtain salvation by Jesus Christ. That these people are called the elect and were chosen in Christ before the world began. It clearly shows that God is in control of all things and that nothing comes to pass unless God has commanded it.

The sovereignty of God. What do we mean by this expression? We mean the supremacy of God, the kingship of God, the godhood of God. To say that God is sovereign is to declare that God is God. To say that God is sovereign is to declare that He is the Most High, doing according to His will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth, so that none can stay His hand or say unto Him what doest Thou? (Dan. 4:35). To say that God is sovereign is to declare that He is the Almighty, the Possessor of all power in heaven and earth, so that none can defeat His counsels, thwart His purpose, or resist His will (Ps. 115:3). To say that God is sovereign is to declare that He is "The Governor among the nations" (Ps. 22:28), setting up kingdoms, overthrowing empires, and determining the course of dynasties as pleaseth Him best. To say that God is sovereign is to declare that He is the "Only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords" (1 Tim. 6:15). Such is the God of the Bible. Just a little over a century after its original publication, Arthur W. Pink's The Sovereignty of God continues to be one of the most helpful works on the matters of God's sovereignty and providence. Wherein, in clear and accessible language, Pink guides the Christian through how God is sovereign over all the events that take place, and how he is working out all things for His glory and for those who love him. This edition, being entirely unabridged, is further supplemented by two additional essays written by Paul Helm and Brett Lee-Price which talk about the book's historical significance and theology.

How is God sovereign with respect to creation? Does creation affect God? Does God suffer or change because of creation? If so, how is this related to Christology? Why have these questions been so controversial in evangelical theology, even costing some people their jobs? This book is a collection of lectures given to the Forum for Evangelical Theology at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. Six theologians answer the questions above from a variety of perspectives. They draw on resources including the church fathers, Thomas Aquinas, John Calvin, Jurgen Moltmann, process theology, and open theism. In the process of answering the question, does God suffer? each theologian also illustrates how responding to this subject requires an examination of other crucial evangelical issues, such as how we read Scripture and what it means to proclaim that God is love. Although the writers answer these questions in a variety of ways, the hope is that engaging in this conversation together can help evangelicals and all Christians to speak more faithfully of our sovereign God.

The sovereignty of God is a doctrine that has been debated by Christians for centuries. For some, this remains a passionate topic, creating different camps among Christians, endlessly arguing about whether God’s sovereignty and human free will can co-exist. For the majority, the doctrine is a vague concept that remains to be explored. This book deals with these issues by examining what the Bible says about God’s sovereignty and human responsibility. It explores the sovereignty of God by looking at God as the Creator, Saviour, Shepherd and Judge, and tackles questions that commonly emerge. If we believe that God is truly sovereign, then we must live out the implications by living faithfully and responsibly—by trusting and obeying Him amid the challenges of life, praying to Him, sharing about Him with others, and serving and hoping in Him. Our relationship with Him is an important way to understand how His grace, purpose, and power invite us to respond responsibly to Him in active discipleship.
