Excerpt from The American Bee Journal, 1883, Vol. 19: Devoted Exclusively to Progressive Bee Culture I have been deeply interested of late in the articles on obtaining a correct statistical report of bees, honey and beeswax in the United States. I most heartily wish it may be obtained, though I very much doubt that it will be during 1883. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from American Bee Journal, Vol. 54: January, 1914 No beings in the world, that we know of, show a better scent than bees do. They can trace honey through the key-hole of a grocery store. We have known them to come down a tireless chimney, to a room where honey was kept, crawling in through a space in the chimney-board. And as to having and recognizing a hive odor. We have seen two swarms fight on being hived together in a dearth of honey. We have seen bees crawl over our hands, because, a few minutes before, we had handled their queen. We have seen a deserted hive robbed quietly as long as one colony was doing it, but with avery strenuous fight when other colo nies joined for a share in the spoils. There is no end to the instances of very positive odor and scent, enabling bees to recognize each other, however much they may be induced to accept of strangers under certain circum stances. Excerpt from American Bee Journal, 1899, Vol. 39 Now, Mr. Editor, I sometimes think that it looks as if we had an ax to grind on large hives, but we have no pat ent, never did have, and don't care - no, not a copper cent whether any one tries our methods or not. We know that it takes more of a bee-keeper to manage the large hives than the small ones, and_ therefore have no hesitancy in referring bee-keepers to the warning I gave some weeks ago, on try ing new things, tho ours is not a new thing, neither is it our own idea, but only a putting in practice of the ideas advanced by masters in the art long before us.
