Hornung (1866–1921) was an English author and poet and also brother-in-law to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Hornung is known for writing the A. J. Raffles series about a gentleman thief based on a deliberate inversion of the Sherlock Holmes series. Hornung dedicated his creation as a form of flattery to Doyle. John Kendrick Bangs (1862–1922) was an American author, editor and satirist. He is famous for "Bangsian Fantasy" genre in which famous literary characters or historical individuals meet and interact in the afterlife.

E.W. Hornung was an English author best known for writing the A.J. Raffles series about an English gentleman thief in the late 19th century.

This volume contains the complete collection -48 short stories and 1 novel-, involving RAFFLES -the best known thief of all times- and his family. A. J. Raffles, a gentleman thief in late-Victorian Britain, was written by Hornung and dedicated to his brother in law, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Raffles is a British gentleman thief of some renown who, in this, the hero's final adventure, ironically demonstrates a sense of morality by teaching a London East End loan shark a lesson. Mr. Justice Raffles: The last (fourth) and best book about AJ Raffles. It was worth reading the first three only so as to get an idea of his character and backstory, and therefore to understand and enjoy this last book more.
