Geotechnical engineers are at work worldwide, contributing to sustainable living and to the creation of safe, economic and pleasant spaces to live, work and relax. With increased pressure on space and resources, particularly in cities, their expertise becomes ever more important. This book presents the proceedings of the 5th iYGEC, International Young Geotechnical Engineers' Conference, held at Marne-la-Vallée, France, from 31 August to 1 September 2013. It is also the second volume in the series Advances in Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. The papers included here cover topics such as laboratory and field testing, geology and groundwater, earthworks, soil behavior, constitutive modeling, ground improvement, earthquake, retaining structures, foundations, slope stability, tunnels and observational methods. The iYGEC conference series brings together students and young people at the start of their career in the geotechnical professions to share their experience, and this book will be of interest to all those whose work involves soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering. Extended Abstracts of Research Papers Published in 5IYGEC: The 5th Indian Young Geotechnical Engineers Conference, organized by Indian Geotechnical Society to commemorate Silver Jubilee of IGS, Baroda Chapter.

This volume highlights the latest advances and innovations in the field of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering, as presented by leading international researchers and engineers at the 5th International Conference on New Developments in Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ZM), held in Nicosia, Northern Cyprus on June 30-July 2, 2022. It covers a diverse range of topics such as soil properties and characterization; shallow and deep foundations; soil improvement; excavations, support systems, earth-retaining structures and underground systems; earthquake geotechnical engineering; stability of slopes and landslides; fills and embankments; environmental preservation, water and energy; modelling and analyses in geotechnical engineering. The contributions, which were selected by means of a rigorous international peer-review process, present a wealth of exciting ideas that will open novel research directions and foster multidisciplinary collaboration among different specialists.

This book comprises the select peer-reviewed papers presented at the 7th Indian Young Geotechnical Engineers Conference (7IYGEC 2019) held at the National Institute of Technology, Silchar. It covers recent research developments in geotechnical engineering particularly in the fields of shallow and deep foundations, rock mechanics, ground improvement techniques, geotechnical earthquake engineering, and characterization of soil. The book also discusses several computational techniques to model behavior of soil which can be useful for future research. A special emphasis is given on geo-environmental engineering for making the world cleaner and safer to live. Given the contents, the book will be beneficial for students, researchers, and professionals working in geotechnical engineering and allied areas.

This proceedings contains 89 papers from 25 countries and regions, including 14 keynote lectures and 17 invited lectures, presented at the Third International Conference on Geotechnical Engineering for Disaster Mitigation and Rehabilitation (3ICGEDMAR 2011) together with the Fifth International Conference on Geotechnical & Highway Engineering (5ICGHE), which was held in Semarang, Indonesia, from 18 to 20 May 2011. This is the third conference in the GEDMAR conference series. The first was held in Singapore from 12 to 13 December 2005 and the second in Nanjing, China, from 30 May to 2 June 2008. The proceedings is divided into three sections: keynote papers, invited papers and conference papers under which there are six sub-sections: Case Studies on Recent Disasters; Soil Behaviours and Mechanisms for Hazard Analysis; Disaster Mitigation and Rehabilitation Techniques; Risk Analysis and Geohazard Assessment; Innovation Foundations for Rail, Highway, and Embankments; and Slope Failures and Remedial Measures. The conference is held under the auspices of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) Technical Committee TC-303: Coastal and River Disaster Mitigation and Rehabilitation, TC-203: Earthquake Geotechnical Engineering and Associated Problems, TC-302: Forensic Geotechnical Engineering, TC-304: Engineering Practice of Risk Assessment and Management, TC-213: Geotechnics of Soil Erosion, TC-202: Transportation Geotechnics, TC-211: Ground Improvement, Southeast Asian Geotechnical Society (SEAGS), Association of Geotechnical Societies in Southeast Asia (AGSSEA), and Road Engineering Association of Asia & Australasia (REAAA).

Annotation. The 17th International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering convenes on 5-9 October 2009 at the international award-winning Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Alexandria, Egypt, to explore the future of our profession under the conference's main theme: 'The Academia and Practice of Geotechnical Engineering'. Volumes 1, 2 and 3 of these proceedings contain the accepted papers addressing these 5 topics: Material Behavior and Testing; Analysis and Design; Prediction, Monitoring and Evaluation of Performance; Construction Process; and, Management, Training and Education. Volume 4 of the proceedings contains the state-of-the-art lectures on the 5 topics, as well as the Terzaghi Oration, Heritage Lecture, Great Project Lecture, and 16 general reports that present an overview of the accepted papers for each of the 15 technical sessions. Post-conference volume 5 will include the Practitioners/Academia Forum and a summary of the 4th International Young Geotechnical Engineers Conference.

In November 2015, Buenos Aires, Argentina became the location of several important events for geo-professionals, with the simultaneous holding of the 6th International Symposium on Deformation Characteristics of Geomaterials, the 15th Pan-American Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (XV PCSMGE), the 8th South American Congress on Rock Mechanics (SCRM), as well as the 22nd Argentinean Congress of Geotechnical Engineering (CAMSIGXXII). This synergy provided a unique opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss current and future practices in the areas of soil mechanics and rock mechanics, and their applications in civil, energy, environmental, and mining engineering. This book presents the proceedings of the 6th International Symposium on Deformation Characteristics of Geomaterials. As well as 118 articles selected for publication after peer review, it includes 7 lectures delivered by invited keynote speakers and the Third Bishop Lecture, delivered by Professor Herve Di Benedetto of the University of Lyon, France, who presented a reference work on the advanced testing and modeling of bituminous bounded and unbounded granular materials. The conference brought together practitioners, researchers and educators from around the world engaged in the understanding of the deformation properties of geo-materials before failure, and the small strain parameters as fundamental characteristics of geo-materials. The main topics covered by the symposium include experimental investigations from very small strains to beyond failure, including multi-physical approach; HTC M coupling behavior, characterization and modeling of various geo-materials and interfaces; and practical prediction and interpretation of ground responses: field observation and case histories.
