A large percentage of the women reached by this survey were still making many garments for women and children. More than two-thirds of the women stated that they were making nine or more of the kinds of garments for men, women, and children listed in the survey. More of those living in the smaller communities than of those living in the larger communities made these garments. A larger percentage of those having a low income than those having larger incomes made the garments named; however, the highest percentages appeared in the majority of cases in the $2,000 to $2,999 income group.

Excerpt from Present Trends in Home Sewing As long as the woman at home has no direct source of mcome and her chief duty 1s in caring for the hoine and its occupants, she will, no doubt, consider that making at least a part of the clothing for the family 1s a wise way of' 'stretching the family mcome. A fact which should not be overlooked is that many women admitted they sewed at home because they enjoyed it. One of the best avenues and often the only one which women have for expressing and develop ing their creative ability 1s in making their own clothing or that of their family. No doubt women of the future will continue to exercise this ability because they find it a joy and satisfaction.
