Not Just Bad Kids: The Adversity and Disruptive Behavior Link explores the theory that all behavior makes sense in context. If you understand a person’s frame of reference – their background, history and experience – you can imagine what might be driving their behavior. The book describes the social, cultural and environmental factors that shape the lives of many youths, including early childhood attachment which sets the foundation for how they interact with authority figures. The book also delves into an explanation of conduct disorder which is characterized by persistent, repetitive behaviors that violate the basic rights of other human beings and break rules. Studies have shown that conduct disorder affects 1-4% of adolescents in the United States and oppositional defiant disorder is estimated to develop in approximately 10.2% of children. The presence of DBD is also known to be more prevalent in boys than it is in girls. As there is a growing need to understand why children and adolescent exhibit signs of hostility, defiance and isolation, this book is an ideal resource for this timely topic. Encompasses both ODD and conduct disorder Introduces readers to the social, cultural and environmental factors that play a crucial part in disruptive behavior Demonstrates the interrelationship of attachment problems, chronic trauma and disruptive behavior Discusses current best practices for intervention and treatment in youth with disruptive behaviors Provides casework examples of patients with disruptive behavior disorder

Protest Song: Price's funny and savage monologue which explores the reality of the Occupy movement through Danny who sleeps rough on the steps of St Paul's Cathedral. The book is totally fiction, but should make you laugh as you imagine your brothers, cousins or local boys in the same situations that the boys in the book find them in. Although I don’t think you should try any of the techniques on a boy, as it would be terribly embarrassing for him. The book starts with various sections, about controlling boys by various girly means – a how to guide and also various suggestions of things to do with them, when under your control, before reading the stories themselves. The main section contains about 12 stories, with boys of ages from 6 to 12 or so, but the main story of 8-year old Tom and his young 7-year old sister, Pam, is very large and so is interspersed, between the other stories with Tom Continued - Parts B to L, to stop you getting bored, with the one boy, being put through his paces by his sister.

This is the continuing story of Milarepa and his disciple Rechungpa, first encountered in volume 18 of The Complete Works. As portrayed in The Hundred Thousand Songs of Milarepa, Rechungpa is a promising disciple, but he has a lot to learn, being sometimes proud, distracted, anxious, desirous of comfort and praise, over-attached to book learning, stubborn, sulky and liable to go to extremes. In other words, he is very human, and surely recognizable to anyone who has embarked on the spiritual path. He all too often takes his teacher's advice the wrong way, or simply ignores it, and it takes all of Milarepa's skill, compassion and patience to keep their relationship intact and help his unruly disciple to stay on the path to Enlightenment. In the story that begins this volume, matters come to a head when Milarepa burns the books that Rechungpa went all the way to India to acquire, but by the end of the volume, Rechungpa is able to set out on his own mission to teach the Dharma. Much happens in between.Sangharakshita's commentary, based on seminars given in the late 1970s and early 1980s, draws from the stories of Milarepa and his wayward disciple much valuable advice for any would-be spiritual practitioner.

In Selected Writings on Race and Difference, editors Paul Gilroy and Ruth Wilson Gilmore gather more than twenty essays by Stuart Hall that highlight his extensive and groundbreaking engagement with race, representation, identity, difference, and diaspora. Spanning the whole of his career, this collection includes classic theoretical essays such as “The Whites of Their Eyes” (1981) and “Race, the Floating Signifier” (1997). It also features public lectures, political articles, and popular pieces that circulated in periodicals and newspapers, which demonstrate the breadth and depth of Hall's contribution to public discourses of race. Foregrounding how and why the analysis of race and difference should be concrete and not merely descriptive, this collection gives organizers and students of social theory ways to approach the interconnections of race with culture and consciousness, state and society, policing and freedom.
