General English for University Students is a book which helps to learn General English or Basic English for non English Department/Major students at university level. This book comprises six units which start from Hello World to Daily Routines. It can be used for 12 until 14 meetings in a semester. Furthermore, each unit can be taught for 2 until 3 meetings. It is because each unit comprises many sub-units including objectives, reading, vocabulary, grammar focus, writing, exercise, and speaking. This book is designed to be more practical rather than theoretical. There are several reading texts for each unit. The reading texts have been adapted to Indonesian culture and norms. There are also many exercises to deepen students’ knowledge and skills. Useful phrases, meaningful words, and grammar focus are provided to maximize students’ language input. In addition, writing and speaking are available to train students’ productive skills. Finally, the author hopes that this book can bring many advantages for lecturers and students especially.

This book tries to help university students to possess necessary communicative English proficiency. The materials and exercises are designed to allow students to have a lot of practices through interactions and collaborations. The book with ten units are meant to provide learning experiences for sixteen meetings in one semester. In the first meeting, lecturers are expected to provide necessary orientation of the book, discuss the classroom rules and deliver necessary assessment for initial information of the existing proficiency of the students. Two meetings are usually devoted for mid-term and final-term formal assessments. Ten meetings are for the ten units covered in this book. One meeting is for performance-based assessment after learning the first five units. One other meeting is for performance-based assessment after learning the second half of the book. Finally, one meeting is for reviewing all the lessons prior to the final-term assessment.

“Understanding Reading Text In English” is an excellent resource book which is available for the university students and educators . This book leads the students to be autonomos students and have good reading habit. It is proposed some simple theories about knowledge and strategies to understand the English text. The oldest and most renowned Dutch university, Leiden was an attractive proposition for travelling foreign students in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Alongside offering an excellent academic program and outstanding facilities, Leiden was also able to cater to the desires of noble students providing various extra-curricular activities. Leiden was the most popular continental university among English students, and this book investigates the 831 English students who studied there between 1575 and 1650. The preference of English students for Leiden was, on the one hand, related to close Anglo-Dutch relations of the period, and these are investigated with respect to politics, economy, religion, culture, as well as to the large 'stranger' communities residing in the respective countries. On the other hand, Leiden's attraction resulted from its academic achievements, which are traced back to the conditions in the United Provinces, the limited influence of the Calvinist Church, Leiden's professors, as well as the university's facilities. The core of this study is an exhaustive quantitative study of the composition of the Leiden student population in general, and that of its English segment in particular. Information is provided on the duration of the studies of English students at Leiden, their age, social background and fields of study. We learn about the careers of English students both prior to and after their time at Leiden, and of the motivation that led the English to choose Leiden over other continental universities. More than a study of one group of students at one university, this book is a valuable contribution to the history of early modern universities and will appeal to a wide international readership interested in cultural and intellectual history as well as in Anglo-Dutch relations.
