This book is part Seven of a series on general and specific interpretation. It particularly deals with the Juridical, Theological, and Psychological interpretations, which are the most useful for the life in the modern civilized societies. Though these three interpretations are concrete and practical, the theoretical parts are developed in the first four books of the series.

Chapter Five of the General Theory of Interpretation is certainly the most intriguing for the interpreter. The description and the nature of several fields in which the hermeneutical interpretation is an excellent means for the understanding. The fields introduced and described by Betti in this chapter are the artistic, the literary, the psychological, the sociological, the juridical, and the economical. Technology and history are the two parallel lines within which all this presentation in included. No one ever has done so much as practically explained and given examples in every one of these fields.

This third volume offers to the readers Chapter Four in English of the 1990 edition of the Teoria Generale dell'Interpretazione by Emilio Betti

This third edition includes the corrections made by the late C. Truesdell in his personal copy. It is annotated by S. Antman who describes the monograph`s genesis and the impact it has made on the modern development of mechanics. Originally published as Volume III/3 of the famous Encyclopedia of Physics in 1965, this book describes and summarizes "everything that was both known and worth knowing in the field at the time." It also has greatly contributed to the unification and standardization of the concepts, terms and notations in the field.

New developments in positive psychology have evolved into the 2nd and 3rd waves, going beyond the individual and positive focus towards complex systems, multi-cultures, and the existential positive psychology of transcending suffering. The present project aims at developing a general theory of well-being that integrates all the above changes as the new frontier of positive psychology. At a time when humanity is threatened by all kinds of existential crises, from climate change to nuclear war, from ideological polarization to a widening income gap, we need to develop a big-picture theoretical framework showing that happiness is not just for those living in peace and prosperity, but also for those struggling in dire poverty and war-ravaged countries like Ukraine, not just for the self, but also for others, not just for the present, but also for future generations. This broader approach towards wellbeing opens up new vistas for research and interventions.
