Excerpt from Crops and Markets, Vol. 5: January 16, 1926 During the calendar year 1924 New York shipped of the cars of carrots moved in the United States. Many carrots also are shipped as parts of cars of mixed vegetables, and are not included in this total. New York, therefore, supplies approximately 65% of the national carrot shipments. In 1924 Texas sent 296 straight cars to market, Mississippi 266, California 166, South Carolina 77, Michigan 54, Indiana 38, and Louisiana 32. Railroad reports indicate that New York shipped carrots every month of the year except J uly. The early crop commenced to move in August, and shipments from stor age continued into June.
