Cleopatras Palace

About the underwater discovery of Cleopatra's palace and its artifacts.

This is the first in a series of underwater explorations with the new Jacques Cousteau, Frank Gioddio. In the ancient harbour of Alexandria, Egypt, he discovers the island of Antihorros from where Cleopatra ruled Egypt and died with Mark Antony. Searching for her mausoleum in the shallow waters, his high- tech mapping has already discovered the ancient cobbled streets of her luxury island, pristine sphinxes, and a statue of Cleopatra as Isis, and Egyptian goddess. This discovery may shed light on this queen who ruled a major part of the ancient world.

Egypt, the cradle of ancient civilization, is shrouded in mystery. Especially the pyramids and mummy making techniques of approximately 5,000 years ago. Pharaohs were also one of the center of attraction. Especially female pharaohs. The pharaoh is the king who was in charge of ruling Egypt. The rulers or kings of Egypt were called pharaohs. When we talk about the kings or pharaohs of Egypt, the image of a man sitting on a throne wearing a blue and gold crown immediately comes to mind. Although most of Egypt's rulers were men. However, the term pharaoh was rarely used for female rulers. Female pharaohs are quite common in Egyptian history. Their contribution to the prosperity of Egypt is also great. Cleopatra VII (69-30 BC) is the most famous woman from classical antiquity. Yet her modern reputation is based largely on her post-antique representation in drama, art, and other media. The current study is the first to examine the queen solely from the source material from the Greco-Roman period: literary sources, Egyptian documents including those of the queen herself, her own writings, and her representations in art.
