Download Arabic-English Dictionary of Qurʾanic Usage Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
The Qurʾan is the living source of all Islamic teaching, and is of singular importance to those interested in Islam and the study of religions. Despite this, there exists a long-felt lack of research tools for English first-language speakers who wish to access the Qurʾan in the original Arabic. The Dictionary of Qurʾanic Usage is the first comprehensive, fully-researched and contextualised Arabic-English dictionary of Qurʾanic usage, compiled in accordance with modern lexicographical methods by scholars who have a lifelong immersion in Qurʾanic Studies. Based on Classical Arabic dictionaries and Qurʾan commentaries, this work also emphasises the role of context in determining the meaning-scatter of each vocabulary item. Illustrative examples from Qurʾanic verses are provided in support of the definitions given for each context in which a particular word occurs, with cross-references to other usages. Frequently occurring grammatical particles are likewise thoroughly explained, insofar as they are used in conveying various nuances of meaning in the text.

This is a handy reference book for those interested in the subject of Islam. The supplement at the end of the dictionary contains articles relevant to Islam. The Quranic terms in this dictionary are the modern translations of Arabic into English. The most prominent entries have the Arabic word in brackets after the English translation. There are nearly a thousand references in the book. Some of the terms have been extensively analysed to give a broad understanding of the issues involved that often includes an examination of its relationship to other terms. Where possible, claims in the Quran have been examined according to evidence drawn from scientific, historical, and scriptural sources. Legal and moral issues are discussed along with their implications.

This dictionary presents the complete vocabulary and the phraseology of the Holy Qur'ân. All root-words of the Holy Qur'ân with their derivatives have been included in it. This dictionary will help the reader to ascertain the real, classical, and root meanings of all the Arabic words used in the Holy Qur'ân. Moreover, efforts have been made to highlight various shades of meaning. Another objective is to help the student of the Holy Qur'ân to EASILY FIND and ascertain the in depth meaning of all the Qur'ânic words. Alphabetical Index of all the Qur'ânic words is being provided. Thus, making this dictionary handy and easy to use. Holy Qur'ân has come to be considered as the standard of Arabic language, even by those who have no belief in it to be of Divine origin. Beauties, there are many, and ideas clothed in rich and appropriate language, which not unfrequently rises to a sublimity far beyond the reach of any translation. It would be idle to pretend that the work is an exhaustive dictionary or that it leaves no room for further improvements. It must not for a moment be imagined that all the meanings and characteristic expressions of the Holy Qur'ân have been included in this Dictionary.

It is a great favor of Allah that many Muslims are nowadays more inclined to read and understand the Holy Qur'an. Alhamdulillah, the number of such people is increasing. In order to encourage as well as help such readers of the Holy Qur'an, I compiled the difficult words of the Qur'an in the form of a book in Urdu, titled Aasaan Lughatul Qur'an (Easy Dictionary of Qur'an) and published it as a dictionary way back in 1952. In this dictionary, words were placed in order of their occurence in the Surahs of the Qur'an, avoiding those words which were repeated. For example, the words Alif-Laam-Meem of Surah al-Baqarah come first and those of Surah aale-Imran come next, and so on.
