When I Bleed Poems About Endometriosis

Over 176 million people have Endometriosis, one of the most painful conditions one can experience. These poems exemplify how painful Endometriosis is while shining a light on the Endo community.

A brief glance into the disturbed mind of a woman dealing with both mental illness and Stage IV Endometriosis. The emphasis is upon her chronic pain condition and the overall impact endometriosis has on her life including her mental health. This is a short poetry collection intended for mature audiences only. Some profanity and graphic imagery is described. This disease is too often undervalued on its effect on a woman's mind body &soul. This is raw poetry written from an angry, lonely and painful place. It is a self-purging of a pelvic problem that is commonly misunderstood by both laypersons and those in the medical field.

When all you know is pain you don't know that that is not normal. It is not a woman's lot to suffer, even if we've been raised that way. Endometriosis is a disease where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, causing pain and/or infertility. It affects roughly 10% (190 million) of reproductive age people with a uterus globally. It is a chronic disease associated with severe, life-impacting pain during periods, sexual intercourse, bowel movements and/or urination, chronic pelvic pain, abdominal bloating, nausea, fatigue, and sometimes depression, anxiety, and infertility. Welcome to the painful world that I live in. My name is Chloe and I live with a condition called Endometriosis. I thought I would piece together some poems/extracts of how Endometriosis not only affects me, but 1 in 10 of us. I thought to add all the ups and downs of this condition as well as other Women's Health Issues. I am not clinically trained in this subject. This is all of what I have been told by someone in the professional field or what I have heard or what I have researched (NEVER GOOGLE YOUR SYMPTOMS)! For any woman who has experienced illness, chronic pain, or endometriosis comes an inspiring memoir advocating for recognition of women's health issues In the fall of 2010, Abby Norman's strong dancer's body dropped forty pounds and gray hairs began to sprout from her temples. She was repeatedly hospitalized in excruciating pain, but the doctors insisted it was a urinary tract infection and sent her home with antibiotics. Unable to get out of bed, much less attend class, Norman dropped out of college and embarked on what would become a years-long journey to discover what was wrong with her.
