Excerpt from Nineteenth Annual Report of the Provost to the Trustees of the Peabody Institute of the City of Baltimore: June 1, 1886 To the Trustees of the Peabody Institute of the City of Baltimore: In accordance with the by-laws, I have the honor of submitting my Nineteenth Annual Report of the operations of the Institute, in all its departments, for the year ending June 1, 1886. No decided changes have taken place in the business of the Institute during the year. The use of the library has been somewhat reduced, but the other departments have maintained themselves remarkably well. The attendance at the lectures last year was exceptionally large, and is not likely to be repeated. During the present year the attendance, though less than last year, has been greater than in any other year, except one, since the opening of the Institute. The number of students in the Conservatory has been slightly larger than last year, the concerts have been as fully attended as ever before, and the visitors to the Art Gallery have increased. Though not marked by any striking advance over past years, all departments of the Institute have been prosperous, and the results attained are satisfactory. Library Department.
