This change is due to the faster increase in rate of lay per bird in the october-january period compared with other months of the year. The upward trend in the rate of lay is primarily the result of progress in breeding and flock management. With this uptrend, the Nation's current egg requirements are being met with fewer layers than in earlier years, even when the increase in population is considered.
