Download Unstable Bubble Motion Under Low Gravitational Conditions Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
An experimental study was conducted to examine some fundamental aspects of the motion of single noncondensable bubbles under low gravitational conditions. An acceptable criterion was found for predicting the onset of unstable bubble motion which was consistent with published stability calculations at normal gravity, Data are also presented on the changes of frequency and amplitude of unstable (oscillatory) motion that occur in low gravity. The findings are applicable to bubbles in low-viscosity isothermal fluids at both normal and reduced gravity.

Download Fundamental Studies on Dynamics of Bubbles and Drops Under the Combined Effect of Buoyancy and Thermocapillary Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
Bubbles and drops are ubiquitous and are of fundamental importance in various industrial and natural processes. The interaction of bubbles and drops with themselves and the background fluid have major impact on the overall behavior of the flow. Hence the need arises to understand their behavior and to manage them in an efficient way. For almost all conventional applications, the gravitational force is predominantly used to control and manipulate their motion. In the cases where the gravitational force becomes weak, particle control by thermocapillary is a promising alternative. Thus, the thermocapillary which relies on manipulation of bubbles and drops caused by the variation of surface tension with temperature is being studied in many physical, chemical, and engineering disciplines. Some of the prominent applications are reduced gravity materials processing, microelectromechanical devices, microfluidics, mixing enhancement in microdrops and transfer of fluid by thermocapillary. Since in reality the force of gravity is inevitable and not entirely absent the main goal here is to understand the behavior of bubbles/drops under the combined effect of gravity and thermocapillary. To this end, the transient behavior of a drop and a collection of them at low Reynolds number and finite Reynolds number was explored. The study of dynamics of isolated bubbles contributes to the understanding of microstructural response of several industrial applications used in the manipulation of particles. Hence, the multi-bubble interactions were analyzed and their pattern formation was studied. Manipulation of tiny amounts of fluids in the form of drops is a central task in many lab-on-chip applications. This necessitates a fundamental understanding of the behavior of compound drops under thermocapillary conditions. Therefore, preliminary studies were done to decipher the dynamics of compound drops. Direct numerical simulations were used to conduct the study.

Download Without Bounds: A Scientific Canvas of Nonlinearity and Complex Dynamics Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
Bringing together over fifty contributions on all aspects of nonlinear and complex dynamics, this impressive topical collection is both a scientific and personal tribute, on the occasion of his 70th birthday, by many outstanding colleagues in the broad fields of research pursued by Prof. Manuel G Velarde. The topics selected reflect the research areas covered by the famous Instituto Pluridisciplinar at the Universidad Complutense of Madrid, which he co-founded over two decades ago, and include: fluid physics and related nonlinear phenomena at interfaces and in other geometries, wetting and spreading dynamics, geophysical and astrophysical flows, and novel aspects of electronic transport in anharmonic lattices, as well as topics in neurodynamics and robotics.

Download OpenFOAM® Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
This book contains selected papers of the 11th OpenFOAM® Workshop that was held in Guimarães, Portugal, June 26 - 30, 2016. The 11th OpenFOAM® Workshop had more than 140 technical/scientific presentations and 30 courses, and was attended by circa 300 individuals, representing 180 institutions and 30 countries, from all continents. The OpenFOAM® Workshop provided a forum for researchers, industrial users, software developers, consultants and academics working with OpenFOAM® technology. The central part of the Workshop was the two-day conference, where presentations and posters on industrial applications and academic research were shown. OpenFOAM® (Open Source Field Operation and Manipulation) is a free, open source computational toolbox that has a larger user base across most areas of engineering and science, from both commercial and academic organizations. As a technology, OpenFOAM® provides an extensive range of features to solve anything from complex fluid flows involving chemical reactions, turbulence and heat transfer, to solid dynamics and electromagnetics, among several others. Additionally, the OpenFOAM technology offers complete freedom to customize and extend its functionalities.
