Excerpt from The Laws of the State of North-Carolina: Enacted in the Year 1820 Be it enacted by the General flssembly of the State of jv'art/z Subpoena, Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority afl/re same, may Le 3 That all exhibits or other documents relative to cases in equity swl now pending, or which may hereafter be pending in the Su preme court, may be proved by the parol testimony ofa witness or witnesses to be examined in said court in the same manner, and under the same rules, as such exhibits or documents may be proved in the Supreme courts And suitors in said court shall have Suhptenas to inlorce the attendance cl witnesses, who shall be liable to the same penalties and actions for non attendance, and be entitled to the granite compensation tor traw velling, ferriage and attendance as witnesses in the Supe rior courts: Provided always, l'na'. The witnesses attending the Supreme Court. Shall be taxed in the bills of costs and paid by the party on whose bebalt they may be summoned.
