This volume contains all of G.K. Chesterton's columns in The Illustrated London News from 1932 to 1934. Most of the weekly articles have never been printed in book form until Ignatius Press undertook to do the collected works. Chesterton lovers will be delighted to find this treasure filled with jewels quite the match of his best writing. The breadth and depth of his knowledge - from history to politics to English fads and conventions - never fail to impress, and his wit is as refreshing as when these pieces were first written.

Excerpt from The Illustrated London News: December 8, 1860 Mr. Abraham mom, who has just been elected President of the United States, was born in the county of Hardem, in Kentucky, on the 12th of February, 1809. His grandfather, who emigrated from Virginia into that State in 1781, was killed by the Indians whilst he was engaged in clearing his lands. His son, who, like himself, was very poor, also died prematurely, and left a widow and some children, one of them being Abraham, then aged six years. The widow, with her children, after a while, took up her residencein the south of Indiana, and there Abraham in course of time reached man's estate. In stature he is almost gigantic, being six feet three inches. His mother was able to give him but little educationwin fact, he passed on.
