'The Hodsons of St Helena, Bath, Cheltenham and Beyond' traces the origins of the Hodson family who came to live on St Helena in the latter half of the 18th century and describes what happened to their decendants who served in British India and other parts of the empire in the 19th and 20th centuries.

The second part of the autobiography of Joyce Grenfell, this text tells of the time she spent with ENSA, entertaining the troops, in England and Northern Ireland, then around the world. The book starts where the first part - Darling Ma - left off, and is a journal of Joyce's experiences.

They describe not just her adventures on the Grand Vegetable Tour - from a rollicking evening's dancing after husking maize with French farmers to visiting ancient Portuguese gardens excavated in sand dunes - but many other experiences, including life at the small experimental market garden she set up in East Anglia on her return; her travels in China and Japan in quest of oriental vegetables; and the creation of a new 'retirement' vegetable garden at a farmhouse on the west coast of Ireland.
