The history of Prentiss County, Mississippi, including the people and families, buildings, businesses, churches, organizations, schools and and sports.

Old Tishomingo County in the Mississippi Territory was divided in 1870 into modern day Alcorn, Prentiss, and Tishomingo Counties.

Alcorn and Prentiss Counties were formed from old Tishomingo County.

In 2010 extensive flooding caused property damage and loss of life in Corinth, Mississippi. Historic drainage districts established at the turn of the 20th century were reactivated to establish responsibility for maintenance of the neglected flood control drainage canals.

Struggling against great odds has remained one of Alcorn's hallmarks. This comprehensive history shows the university moving confidently into the twenty-first century proud of its distinctive heritage and intent on removing obstacles that threaten to check a long-established tradition of excellence.
