The Fjh Young Beginner Guitar Method

GuitarWorks, NoteWriter, Composer Corner, and Music Fun sections provide activities to reinforce concepts presented in the Lesson Book. A sound basis for rhythm is established by fun-filled counting and writing activities.

Includes a pre-reading section that allows the student to play songs by reading fret numbers only. Natural notes in first position on strings one, two, and three are presented, along with basic rhythms. Dynamics are also introduced to develop musicianship at an early level. The book is equally adaptable to pick style or classical technique. Includes optional teacher duets with chord names. Rhythmic accuracy is stressed throughout the method. Includes downloadable MP3 files. Every song title has three MP3 tracks: 1) the teacher duet on the left channel and the student solo on the right channel; 2) an orchestration at a performance tempo where the instrumentation and music style enhance the various moods of each individual piece; 3) the same orchestration at a slower (practice) tempo.

Although this book begins with short exercises using extremely simple, two-finger left-hand movements, it quickly takes these building blocks and stacks them into a skyscraper of precise right- and left-hand technique. Develops left-hand dexterity, solid rhythmic sense, and plectrum technique, including crosspicking, through challenging scale and arpeggio exercises. Standard notation and tablature.

The Lesson Book 3 provides a seamless transition from Book 2, introducing complete chords with many opportunities to strum while the teacher plays the melody. New concepts include: dotted quarter notes, hammer-ons and pull-offs, major and minor pentatonic scales, major key theory and major scales, power chords, palm mute, solo styles, and music in Second Position. Music styles include popular, rock 'n' roll, blues, classics, themes from around the world, and music from various eras. New features include: Dotted Quarter Notes Through the Ages (with Timeline), and a National Anthem Suite. Many optional teacher duets are included. Students may also enjoy playing the teacher duet parts as well!

This book is supplemental to the FJH Young Beginner Guitar Method. Students may begin the Exploring Chords book at any time in their studies. Three-string chords are presented by chord name and guitar fingerboard (frame) only. Duet arrangements allow the teacher to play the melody while being accompanied by the student.

The primary chords are taught in the keys of C, G, D, Am, and Em. The F chord is carefully introduced with techniques that speed up the mastery time. Other new concepts and techniques are: power chords, tablature, and how to use a capo. Fingerstyle playing is introduced with a thoroughly conceived and pedagogical approach using free strokes. Right-hand strumming is developed by using eighth note strums and root and fifth strums. The selection of outstanding music and the thorough preparatory material make this book a joy to use!
