When Cinderella's mouse friend Gus picks roses from Lady Tremaine's garden for his dear Cinderelly, Cinderella gets in a lot of trouble. She takes Gus into town to replace the rosebush, but forgets that it's the day of the big village fair. Gus gets so excited that he accidentally knocks over a giant cake prepared for the King!

Cinderella does all of the household chores for her wicked stepmother and stepsisters. She doesn't have time for fun, so her only friends are the birds and the mice who live in the house. So when she rescues a little mouse named Gus from a trap one morning, he quickly becomes her newest friend. But when it's time for bed, it's up to Cinderella to show Gus how to get ready for bed. After all, falling asleep isn't all there is to bedtime!

Henry W. Hewet's 'Cinderella' is a slightly modified edition of the classic fairy tale, with elements that will surprise those familiar only with Disney's adaptation. Here, Cinderella's father is alive and neglectful of his daughter while being blindly infatuated with his wife. Cinderella's nickname is derived from sitting in the chimney corner amidst the cinders. The story shows her spending more than one night at the ball with the prince and forgiving her stepsisters and even arranging their marriages. Despite all these differences, the book is still a great retelling of the classic fairytale that continues to inspire generations of people.
