Being a Mormon missionary in Uruguay was one of the hardest things I've ever done. It was also one of the greatest and most rewarding. I left behind everything I had to serve a two-year mission. Just like most missionaries, I really didn't understand what kind of adventure I'd be getting into. From experiencing culture shock and trying to learn a new language, I had a lot to discover and experience. I saw very ugly things happen, things that I've chosen to forget, and things I chose not to write about. I also saw the most beautiful things that life has to offer. I saw love and kindness at its fullest. I was always amazed at how an ounce of spiritual joy could outweigh a ton of grief. An experience with such great extremes is not only worth writing about but also worth reading.

On the basis of a country visit to Uruguay on April 24-28, 2017, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights and the environment reviews the legal and institutional framework for environmental protection in Uruguay; describes its environmental conditions; and describes good practices and challenges in several areas, including: (a) climate change; (b) access to information; (c) public participation in decision-making; and (d) access to effective remedies. The report concludes with recommendations of the Special Rapporteur in each of these areas.
