Sofsem 2010

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 36th Conference on Current Trends in Theory and Practice of Computer Science, SOFSEM 2010, held in Špindleruv Mlýn, Czech Republic, in January 2009. The 53 revised full papers, presented together with 11 invited contributions, were carefully reviewed and selected from 134 submissions. SOFSEM 2010 was organized around the following four tracks: Foundations of computer science, principles of software construction, Data, knowledge, and intelligent systems and Web science.

This Festschrift was published in honor of Hans L. Bodlaender on the occasion of his 60th birthday. The 14 full and 5 short contributions included in this volume show the many transformative discoveries made by H.L. Bodlaender in the areas of graph algorithms, parameterized complexity, kernelization and combinatorial games. The papers are written by his former Ph.D. students and colleagues as well as by his former Ph.D. advisor, Jan van Leeuwen. The two-volume set LNCS 7044 and 7045 constitutes the refereed proceedings of three confederated international conferences: Cooperative Information Systems (CoopIS 2011), Distributed Objects and Applications - Secure Virtual Infrastructures (DOA-SVI 2011), and Ontologies, DataBases and Applications of SEmantics (ODBASE 2011) held as part of OTM 2011 in October 2011 in Hersonissos on the island of Crete, Greece. The 55 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 141 submissions. The 28 papers included in the second volume constitute the proceedings of DOA-SVI 2011 with 15 full papers organized in topical sections on performance measurement and optimization, instrumentation, monitoring, and provisioning, quality of service, security and privacy, and models and methods, and ODBASE 2011 with 9 full papers organized in topical sections on acquisition of semantic information, use of semantic information, and reuse of semantic information and 4 short papers.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Foundations of Software Science and Computational Structures, FOSSACS 2012, held as part of the joint European Conference on Theory and Practice of Software, ETAPS 2012, which took place in Tallinn, Estonia, in March/April 2012. The 29 papers presented in this book together with two invited talks in full paper length were carefully reviewed and selected from 100 full paper submissions. The papers deal with theories and methods to support analysis, synthesis, transformation and verification of programs and software systems.

As computers increasingly control the systems and services we depend upon within our daily lives like transport, communications, and the media, ensuring these systems function correctly is of utmost importance. This book consists of twelve chapters and one historical account that were presented at a workshop in London in 2015, marking the 25th anniversary of the European ESPRIT Basic Research project ‘ProCoS’ (Provably Correct Systems). The ProCoS I and II projects pioneered and accelerated the automation of verification techniques, resulting in a wide range of applications within many trades and sectors such as aerospace, electronics, communications, and retail. The five-volume set LNCS 6782 - 6786 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the International Conference on Computational Science and Its Applications, ICCSA 2011, held in Santander, Spain, in June 2011. The five volumes contain papers presenting a wealth of original research results in the field of computational science, from foundational issues in computer science and mathematics to advanced applications in virtually all sciences making use of computational techniques. The topics of the fully refereed papers are structured according to the five major conference themes: geographical analysis, urban modeling, spatial statistics; cities, technologies and planning; computational geometry and applications; computer aided modeling, simulation, and analysis; and mobile communications.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 5th International Workshop on Reachability Problems, RP 2011, held in Genoa, Italy, in September 2011. The 16 papers presented together with 4 invited talks were carefully reviewed and selected from 24 submissions. The workshop deals with reachability problems that appear in algebraic structures, computational models, hybrid systems, logic, and verification. Reachability is a fundamental problem that appears in several different contexts: finite- and infinite-state concurrent systems, computational models like cellular automata and Petri nets, decision procedures for classical, modal and temporal logic, program analysis, discrete and continuous systems, time critical systems, and open systems modelled as games.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 18th International Conference on Logic for Programming, Artificial Intelligence, and Reasoning, LPAR-18, held in Merida, Venezuela, in March 2012. The 25 regular papers and 6 tool descriptions and experimental papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 74 submissions. The series of International Conferences on Logic for Programming, Artificial Intelligence and Reasoning (LPAR) is a forum where, year after year, some of the most renowned researchers in the areas of logic, automated reasoning, computational logic, programming languages and their applications come to present cutting-edge results, to discuss advances in these fields, and to exchange ideas in a scientifically emerging part of the world.

The six-volume set LNCS 8579-8584 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 14th International Conference on Computational Science and Its Applications, ICCSA 2014, held in Guimarães, Portugal, in June/July 2014. The 347 revised papers presented in 30 workshops and a special track were carefully reviewed and selected from 1167. The 289 papers presented in the workshops cover various areas in computational science ranging from computational science technologies to specific areas of computational science such as computational geometry and security.
