This book addresses one of the most intriguing mysteries of our universe: the nature of dark matter. The results presented here mark a significant and substantial contribution to the search for new physics, in particular for new particles that couple to dark matter. The first analysis presented is a search for heavy new particles that decay into pairs of hadronic jets (dijets). This pioneering analysis explores unprecedented dijet invariant masses, reaching nearly 7 TeV, and sets constraints on several important new physics models. The two subsequent analyses focus on the difficult low dijet mass region, down to 200 GeV, and employ a novel technique to efficiently gather low-mass dijet events. The results of these analyses transcend the long-standing constraints on dark matter mediator particles set by several existing experiments.

A search for narrow resonances decaying to the dijet final state at the CMS experiment. The data consists of 12.9 fb^( -1) of proton-proton collisions. Data scouting is used to extend the search to lower masses. The dijet mass spectra at low and high masses are well parametrized by smoothly falling functions. No significant evidence of a resonance is observed. Upper limits on the product of cross section, branching fraction, and experimental acceptance at the 95% confidence level are set on resonances with masses between 0.6 and 7.5 TeV. The limits exclude benchmark models for string resonances below 7.4 TeV, scalar diquarks below 6.9 TeV, axigluons and colorons below 5.5 TeV, excited quarks below 5.4 TeV, color-octet scalars below 3.0 TeV, W' bosons below 2.7 TeV, Z' bosons below 2.1 TeV and from 2.3 to 2.6 TeV, vector and axial-vector DM mediators below 2.0 TeV, and RS gravitons below 1.9 TeV. These limits expand the excluded region beyond past searches and are the first limits set on DM mediators by the dijet channel.

A search for narrow resonances decaying into dijet final states is performed on data from proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 18.8 fb-1. The data were collected with the CMS detector using a novel technique called data scouting, in which the information associated with these selected events is much reduced, permitting collection of larger data samples. This technique enables CMS to record events containing jets at a rate of 1 kHz, by collecting the data from the high-level-trigger system. In this way, the sensitivity to low-mass resonances is increased significantly, allowing previously inaccessible couplings of new resonances to quarks and gluons to be probed. The resulting dijet mass distribution yields no evidence of narrow resonances. Upper limits are presented on the resonance cross sections as a function of mass, and compared with a variety of models predicting narrow resonances. Furthermore, the limits are translated into upper limits on the coupling of a leptophobic resonance Z'B to quarks, improving on the results obtained by previous experiments for the mass range from 500 to 800 GeV.

This Letter presents a search for new resonances decaying to final states with a vector boson produced in association with a high transverse momentum photon, V? , with V=W(→l?) or Z(→l+l-), where l=e or ?. The measurements use 20.3 fb-1 of proton–proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of √s = 8 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector. No deviations from the Standard Model expectations are found, and production cross section limits are set at 95% confidence level. Masses of the hypothetical aT and ?T states of a benchmark Low Scale Technicolor model are excluded in the ranges [275,960] GeV and [200,700]?[750,890] GeV, respectively. Limits at 95% confidence level on the production cross section of a singlet scalar resonance decaying to Z? final states have also been obtained for masses below 1180 GeV.

Our search is reported for massive resonances decaying into a quark and a vector boson (W or Z), or two vector bosons (WW, WZ, or ZZ). The analysis is performed on an inclusive sample of multijet events corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb-1, collected in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. We found that the search uses novel jet-substructure identification techniques that provide sensitivity to the presence of highly boosted vector bosons decaying into a pair of quarks. Exclusion limits are set at a confidence level of 95% on the production of: (i) excited quark resonances q*decaying to qW and qZ for masses less than 3.2 TeV and 2.9 TeV, respectively, (ii) a Randall-Sundrum graviton GRS decaying into WW for masses below 1.2 TeV, and (iii) a heavy partner of the W boson W' decaying into WZ for masses less than 1.7 TeV. For the first time mass limits are set on W' → WZ and GRS → WW in the all-jets final state. The mass limits on q* → qW, q* → qZ, W' → WZ, GRS → WW are the most stringent to date. A model with a "bulk" graviton Gbulk that decays into WW or ZZ bosons is also studied.

A search for three-jet hadronic resonance production in proton-proton collisions at 8 TeV center-of-mass energy has been conducted by the CMS Collaboration at the LHC. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.4 fb-1. The search method is modelindependent. Events are selected that contain a large number of jets with high transverse momentum. An ensemble of jets is used to extract a new possible signal from copious QCD background. Event selection is optimized using a benchmark model where supersymmetric gluinos are pair-produced and each of the gluinos decays exclusively into three jets. Two scenarios of this decay are considered denoted by the RPV couplings [lambda]'' 112 and [lambda]'' 113 or [lambda]'' 223. The first coupling allows for gluinos to decay into only light-flavor jets, while the latter two allow decays into one heavy-flavor and two light-flavor jets. No significant deviation is found between the selected events and the expected standard model multijet and t$\bar{t}$ background. For gluinos decaying through 00 112, masses below 650 GeV are excluded at the 95% confidence level. The search including heavy-flavor jets in the final state with the couplings [lambda]'' 113 or [lambda]'' 223 is the first of its kind. Gluinos decaying into one heavy-flavor and two light-flavor jets are excluded for masses between 200 and 835 GeV.

A search for new heavy resonances in two-jet final states is described in this thesis. The data were collected by the ATLAS detector proton-proton collisions at s = 7 TeV and correspond to a time-integrated luminosity of 6.1 pb -1. The background-only hypothesis was tested on the observed data using BumpHunter test statistic. Consistency was found between the observed data and the background-only prediction. No resonant features were observed. A Bayesian approach using binned maximum likelihood was used to set upper limits on the product of cross section and detector acceptance for excited-quark (q*) production as a function of q* mass. At 95% credibility level (CL), the q* mass in the interval of 0.50 TeV
