Use it when you are developing, implementing, or evaluating a Nordic initiative and when you want to integrate a child rights and youth perspective into your work. The tool contains different forms tailored to different activities and is for those working within or on behalf of the Nordic Council of Ministers. The 0–25 age group is a prioritised target group in the strategy. A key objective in the strategy is that the Nordic Council of Ministers will increasingly integrate a child rights and youth perspective in its work, thereby raising the level of participation of children and young people. The objective is based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, but also on a conviction that today’s projects and activities would be improved when children and young people participate and exert influence in various ways. Decisions would also be given greater legitimacy, and initiatives would be of higher quality and relevant to more people when the perspective of children and young people is incorporated.

This strategy has now been extended to 2024, with minor updates. The strategy lays down the vision for the Nordic Council of Ministers’ efforts relating to children and young people: that the Nordic Region must be the best place in the world for children and young people.The objective of efforts relating to children and young people in the Nordic Region is to establish good living conditions and improve their opportunity for influence. The right to good living conditions and influence must be promoted equally for all children and young people regardless of their gender, ethnic, cultural or socioeconomic background, age, place of origin, sexual orientation, or disability.

2010 is the 20th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. In honour of this, we present in this publication 23 selected articles about children's involvement in the Nordic countries and in the self-governing territories of Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Åland. The articles illustrate a broad spectrum of models for participation as applied in central arenas in everyday lives of children and young people: pre-schools and schools, culture and local environment, and in political decisions. We have also included articles that concern the involvement of children and young people with experiences as clients in the welfare support system. An important goal is that these examples will serve as inspiration and toolkits for others who work with children and young people. This publication was produced by Norwegian Social Research (NOVA) as commissioned by the Nordic Committee for Children and Young People (NORDBUK) at the Nordic Council of Ministers.

In the Nordic countries, the youth are leading the way as sustainable changemakers with ambitious, radical,and urgent demands to politicians and decision-makers to take action now.This analysis looks at youth in the Nordic countries, aged 13-30, and their concerns, motivation, inspiration, actions, approaches, recommendations, and demands in relation to SDG12 on Sustainable Consumption and Production.

The book presents a comparative study of children’s constitutional rights in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The authors discuss the value of enshrining children’s rights in national constitutions in addition to implementing the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). Central issues are whether enshrining children’s rights in the Constitution improves implementation and enforcement of those rights by providing advocacy tools and by mandating courts, legislators, policy-makers and practitioners to take children’s rights seriously. The study assesses whether the Nordic constitutions are in line with the child rights approach of the CRC both on a general level and in detail in three domains; the best interests of the child, participation rights, and the right to respect for family life.
