Originally published in 1955, this volume is being reissued to make the entire series available to students and scholars of biblical and post-biblical Judaism and early Christianity.

DJD XXXII presents the first full critical edition of 1QIsa]a and 1QIsa]b which constitute almost 30% of all the biblical material, in the style of the DJD series. Part 1 contains the photographic plates (1QIsa]a in colour) with the transciptions on facing pages for easy comparison. Part 2 contains fresh transcriptions, notes on problematic readings, and the first comprehensive catalogue of textual variants.

Examines the formation of the caves in the ancient village of Qumran in present-day Israel, the discovery of the Dead Sea scrolls and other artifacts hidden in the caves, and what the archaeological findings reveal about the lives of the people who lived in ancient Qumran.

The discovery by Bedouin of ancient scrolls in caves near the Dead Sea in 1947 led to scholastic and popular excitement that continues to the present day.
