Brush application is pos sible when the creosote is thinned with a light oil such as diesel fuel or mineral spirits. Brush it on only as a spot treatment when pressure treated material must be cut and untreated wood is exposed. Pentachlorophenol Pentachlorophenol is commonly referred to as penta or pcp. Penta treated wood varies in color, de pending on the type of oil that is used as a carrier; the heavier oils will darken the wood. Advantages and disadvantages of penta are as follows.
