In deciding what to do, we assess the reasons we have for different courses of action and form an intention on the basis of those reasons. Our deliberation in such cases is structured by norms of rationality; the central ones tell us to take the means to our ends, to not intend incompatible states of affairs, and to not reconsider our intentions unless new considerations come to light. My thesis concerns the grounding of these norms: what is their justification and why are they binding on us?
