In her final book, Poganuc People, Harriet Beecher Stowe looked back at her earliest days. The novel is a loving tribute to her New England childhood. The heroine, Dolly Cushing, a thinly disguised version of Stowe herself as a girl, copes with a family too busy to give her the attention she craves.

Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. There were no servants present, and thegentlemen, with chairs closely approaching, seemed to be discussing somesubject with great earnestness.For convenience sake, we have said, hitherto, two _gentlemen_. One ofthe parties, however, when critically examined, did not seem, strictlyspeaking, to come under the species.
