Excerpt from Outlines of Ceylon History T an interview accorded by H. E. Sir Henry Blake on 2ud July, 1906, to a deputation Of the Ceylon Social Reform Society, on the question of the teaching of Ceylon History in the local schools being raised, the objection was taken by the Acting Director of Public Instruction that there was no suitable school history available; and he held outa promise to do all he could to further the study Of the subject as soon as such a book was brought into existence. I have accordingly devoted almost all my leisure to the produc tion Of such a work, as I believe will not only be of use in the schools, but will also interest the general reader; and I Shall consider my labour well rewarded if it would but assist the youth Of the country to acquire some knowledge of their past.
