Download Functional Reconstruction of the Mandible Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
Since 1958 the Association for the Study of Internal Fixation (ASIF) has worked to establish the experimental and biomechanical prin ciples of the operative treatment of fractures. It has been proven that immediate, pain-free mobilization, made possible by stable internal fixation, is the key to restoring function in a fractured extremity. The same principles were applied in 1972173 by Roland Schmoker, who developed a universal plate and sophisticated instrument set designed initially for the treatment of comminuted fractures of the mandible. To extend the applications of his plate to reconstructions after ex tensive tumor resections, he supplemented the device with tem poromandibular joint prostheses and anchoring elements for the at tachment of dentures. He first tested the functional stability of these implants experimentally in sheep. Later he found that the minipig had a more human-like jaw shape and masticatory action, and so he tested the implants in 37 mini pigs that underwent extensive mandibular re sections without bone grafting, using sequential dye injections and postoperative weight gain to chart the progress of osseous regener ation. Seven other animals were not operated and served as controls.

This reference for clinicians is devoted to surgical procedures known as oral and maxillofacial rehabilitation ad modum Branemark. Branemark (who developed the techniques in the 1950s and early 1960s) and three co-authors discuss modifications in clinical procedures for treatment of patients with severely resorbed maxillae over a period of two decades. Both typical clinical cases and some unusual cases with defect anatomies are reported, illustrating methodology and clinical features and emphasizing variations in healing patterns. Download Bone Grafting Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
This valuable book presents clinical experiences and research of bone grafting. Bone grafting is an essential technique practiced by craniofacial, maxillofacial, orthopedic, neuro, reconstructive and oral surgeons. Bone grafting can be used for reconstruction and restoring missing bone in trauma and tumor surgery of the facial bone or in road traffic accidents with multiple injuries and in post-traumatic missile war injuries to the face or limbs. Bone grafts, in the form of Kummoona Chondro-Ossous graft or Costo-Chondral graft, are used for reconstruction of damage TMJ for restoration of growth, function, and repair. Bone grafting is a surgical procedure where the iliac crest or rib or tibia is used to perform grafting. In this book, we examine the experimental studies on rabbits to understand the cellular changes associated with bone grafting. From this, we noticed that mesenchymal stem cells and growth factor are released from platelets and these play an important role in healing the bone graft. We recommend this valuable book to all cranio-maxillofacial, orthopedic, plastic, reconstructive, neuro and oral surgeons and to all postgraduate students studying bone grafting.
