These one-chapter books of the Bible may be short, but they illustrate how to live authentic Christian lives in the middle of a culture opposed to truth and grace. Still-relevant issues include: how our oneness in Christ transcends social boundaries, how to love with discernment, and how to deal with false teachers who are wrecking the church.

Postcards are personal, powerful, and force us to get to the point. The same is true for inspired postcards that, sadly, are often left unread. Blink and you will miss the brief notes of Philemon, 2nd John, 3rd John, Jude, and the letters to the seven churches -- proof positive that you can say a lot in a little.

Thirty biblical meditations for women that offer hope in times of suffering. Thirty biblical meditations for women that offer hope in times of suffering. Hurt is real. But so is hope. Kristen and Sarah have walked through, and are walking in, difficult times. So these thirty biblical reflections are full of realism about the hurts of life-yet overwhelmingly full of hope about the God who gives life. This book will gently encourage and greatly help any woman who is struggling with suffering-whether physical, emotional or psychological, and whether for a season or for longer. It is a book to buy for yourself, or to buy for a member of your church or friend. For anyone who is hurting, this book will give hope, not just for life beyond the suffering, but for life in the suffering. Each chapter contains a biblical reflection, with questions and prayers, and a space for journaling.

The 'postcards' that John wrote to the churches of 2 and 3 John are packed full of useful instruction and exhortation. John sent these 'postcards' on ahead of hoped for, and longed for face to face visits: in 2 John to 'the elect lady and her children' and in 3 John to 'the beloved Gaius'. Both churches had their problems. The problem in the church of 2 John concerned deceiving deviants from outside the church - 'men who will not acknowledge the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh', whilst the problem addressed in 3 John was concerned mainly with a dreadful dictator from within the church - 'Diotrephes, who likes to put himself first, does not acknowledge my authority'. These problem personalities from the first century will ring many present-day bells with us in the twenty-first century. In John's 'postcards', we encounter doctrine, duty, affirmation of truth, and warning against error. We meet love and discipline along with affection and sternness. Overriding everything, as everywhere in the Bible, we glimpse something of the supernatural glory of God in contrast with the sinful humanity He sent His Own Son to save. If you thought this was a book just to read, then think again! At the end of each chapter there is a set of thought-provoking and stimulating questions, each of which could be the subject of a Bible study group.

How to grow as thankful women of God. As women, we are often encouraged to "count our blessings". But truly biblical gratitude is much more than this. Mary K. Mohler unpacks Scripture to help us grow in gracious gratitude (thanking God for who he is) as well as natural gratitude (thanking him for his blessings) - and to identify and deal with some of the things that hinder us - to help us rediscover the joy of a thankful heart. This thoroughly Bible-centred unpacking of the reasons for gratitude builds on Mary K. Mohler's 25 years experience in mentoring seminary wives at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Discussion questions at the end of each chapter make this book ideal for group use as well as for individuals.
