New Research Frontiers For Intelligent Autonomous Systems

This carefully edited volume aims at providing readers with the most recent progress on intelligent autonomous systems, with its particular emphasis on intelligent autonomous ground, aerial and underwater vehicles as well as service robots for home and healthcare under the context of the aforementioned convergence. “Frontiers of Intelligent Autonomous Systems” includes thoroughly revised and extended papers selected from the 12th International Conference on Intelligent Autonomous Systems (IAS-12), held in Jeju, Korea, June 26-29, 2012. The editors chose 35 papers out of the 202 papers presented at IAS-12 which are organized into three chapters: Chapter 1 is dedicated to autonomous navigation and mobile manipulation, Chapter 2 to unmanned aerial and underwater vehicles and Chapter 3 to service robots for home and healthcare. To help the readers to easily access this volume, each chapter starts with a chapter summary introduced by one of the editors: Chapter 1 by Sukhan Lee, Chapter 2 by Kwang Joon Yoon and Chapter 3 by Jangmyung Lee.

This book contains scientific and engineering activities of the fifth international conference of Intelligent Autonomous Systems (IAS-5). The exploration for automatic systems has much attention over the centuries and created attractive research activities. The Intelligent and Autonomous systems are the current trend toward fully automatic systems that can adapt to changes in their environment. The purpose of the fifth IAS conference is to provide an opportunity for the international community of researchers in the field of autonomous systems as well as architectures, tools, components, techniques, and new IAS design methodologies. The emphasis will be on science and technology for autonomous systems working in a complex environment.

This book presents the latest advances and research achievements in the fields of autonomous robots and intelligent systems, presented at the IAS-16 conference, conducted virtually in Singapore, from 22 to 25 June 2021. IAS is a common platform for an exchange and sharing of ideas among the international scientific research and technical community on some of the main trends of robotics and autonomous systems: navigation, machine learning, computer vision, control, and robot design—as well as a wide range of applications. IAS-16 reflects the rise of machine learning and deep learning developments in the robotics field, as employed in a variety of applications and systems. All contributions were selected using a rigorous peer-reviewed process to ensure their scientific quality. Despite the challenge of organising a conference during a pandemic, the IAS biennial conference remains an essential venue for the robotics and autonomous systems community ever since its inception in 1986. The goal of the Seventh International Conference on Intelligent Autonomous Systems (IAS-7) was to exchange and stimulate research ideas that make future robots and systems more intelligent and autonomous. This volume of proceedings contains 71 technical papers by authors from 15 countries.
