Municipal Financial Reporting Manual

This manual was developed to enhance the degree of uniformity on accounting and reporting among New Brunswick municipalities as well as to improve the level and quality of financial information from municipalities. Describes general and specific accounting principles to be followed, audit requirements, standards for financial statement presentation, and samples of reporting Statements of General Funds, Water and Sewerage, Reserve Funds, and Notes to Financial Statements. Includes guidelines to charting accounts and providing details of revenue and expenditure accounts.

This manual was developed to enhance the degree of uniformity of accounting and reporting by New Brunswick municipalities as well as to improve the level and quality of the financial information. The manual is also in response to requests from municipalities and Auditors for a document from the Department of Municipalities, Culture and Housing with recommendations on financial reporting matters and audit requirements for New Brunswick municipalities.
