Her own loving nature made helpful service easy. Her husband Sir Harry Verney cheered her by his constant interest in and sympathy with her work. Prominent amongst those who at this time rendered assistance were the Hon. Misses Frederica and Catherine Spring Rice, who were most energetic in collecting materials and verifying quota tions, whilst much work in copying was entrusted to Lady Verney's faithful amanuensis, Mr. W. J Morey. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Memoirs of the Verney Family During the Commonwealth, 1650 to 1660, Vol. 3: Compiled From the Letters and Illustrated by the Portraits at Claydon House The materials for continuing the Verney Memoirs are only too abundant, as, during the latter half of the seventeenth century, the letters increase in length and in numbers. The heroic age of the Civil War is over. No later Verney plays such a part in Court and camp as Sir Edmund Verney the Standard-bearer, or woman claims our love and reverence as did that incomparable person' Dame Mary. But the interest of the story has changed rather than diminished; we have more variety of character; and the incidents are given with greater fulness of detail. In attempting to continue Lady Verney's work I have again to acknowledge the invaluable help given me by the Hon. Mrs. Sotheby and the Hon. Catherine Spring-Rice, by Dr. S. R. Gardiner, the Rev. LI. J. Kenyon Stow, and other kind friends and correspondents. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
