Museum, Whitehall, and has the following legend attached to it Damascus Sabre, given by Yussuf Karaman Ali, Pasha of Tripoli, to Captain W. H. Smyth, kn., It is flame-shaped, as recommended by the author for ships' cutlasses, or other blades which are not worn in scabbards. This flamboyant shape was common enough in the old straight long double-handed swords of the chivalric era.
