Las Desigualdades Matan

Este informe pone de manifiesto las desigualdades que fragmentan la sociedad y la violencia enquistada en los modelos económicos. Estas desigualdades han provocado que la pandemia de coronavirus resulte más letal, prolongada y dañina en determinadas sociedades. Instituciones económicas a nivel mundial han estimado que la pandemia ha provocado un aumento de las desigualdades dentro de los países en todo el mundo. Al menos 73 países se enfrentan a posibles medidas de austeridad respaldadas por el FMI, lo que puede agravar las desigualdades entre países, así como todas las formas de desigualdad a nivel interno. Igualmente se verán afectados los derechos de las mujeres y los avances realizados en materia de igualdad de género se verán golpeados por estas medidas de austeridad, ya que la crisis ha retrasado el camino para cerrar la brecha de género. En varios países hay incremento de la violencia de género y las mujeres asumen un volumen de trabajo de cuidados no remunerados extra, lo que las mantiene atrapadas en la parte más baja de la pirámide económica. Se analiza la desigualdad en cuanto al reparto de vacunas. Se insta a los gobiernos a buscar soluciones sistémicas, combatir la violencia económica desde su origen y establecer las bases de un mundo más justo.

La desigualdad es una violación de la dignidad humana. Puede adoptar múltiples formas y tiene múltiples consecuencias: muerte prematura, mala salud, humillación, subyugación, discriminación, exclusión del conocimiento o de la vida social, pobreza, inseguridad... This book provides in-depth insights into the construction of the first road to reach riparian communities and the main access point to a national park in the Amazonian rain forest. It is based on an ethnographic investigation in Peru’s Manu Province in the Amazon, which explored diverse local attitudes towards the construction of a road in the overlapping buffer zone of two protected areas: the Manu National Park and the Amarakaeri Communal Reserve. The book reveals the applicability of Harvey and Knox’s concept of ‘enchantments of infrastructure’ in the case of first roads, but also makes accessible wider debates in political ecology such as territoriality and frontier development.
