VOLUME 27, NUMBER 2 (2018) is a special issue of the Journal of Prisoners on Prisons marking the 20th anniversary of Convict Criminology (CC) edited by Andreas Aresti and Sacha Darke. Drawing on auto-ethnographic, action research and other approaches to qualitative inquiry, the collection features contributions on a variety of topics, including the criminalization of women, the place of current and former prisoners in advocacy work concerning 'criminal justice', the role higher education can play in carceral settings, theorizing the experience of freedom and the deprivation of liberty, pushing the boundaries of CC through abolitionism and its internationalisation. For 25 years, the Journal of Prisoners on Prisons (JPP) has been a prisoner written, academically oriented and peer reviewed, non-profit journal, based on the tradition of the penal press. It brings the knowledge produced by prison writers together with academic arguments to enlighten public discourse about the current state of carceral institutions.

After conducting a comprehensive literature search, the authors undertook a meta-analysis to examine the association between correctional education and reductions in recidivism, improvements in employment after release from prison, and other outcomes. The study finds that receiving correctional education while incarcerated reduces inmates' risk of recidivating and may improve their odds of obtaining employment after release from prison.

Assesses the effectiveness of correctional education for both incarcerated adults and juveniles, presents the results of a survey of U.S. state correctional education directors, and offers recommendations for improving correctional education.

Volume 22, Number 2 of the Journal of Prisoners on Prisons is a general issue edited by Professor Susan Nagelsen (New England College) and Charles Huckelbury, who is an award winning author and former prisoner.

This general issue of the Journal of Prisoners on Prisons edited by Justin Piché and Kevin Walby features articles by current and former prisoners documenting the latest trends in penal policy and practice in the United States. The issue also features an article to "The Dialogue on the Canadian Carceral State" that explores the punitiveness of Canada's immigration system, a "Response" paper on the struggle over the future of the decommissioned Prison for Women (P4W) as a site of memory, as well as "Prisoners' Struggles" contributions, and a book review. The chapters look at the different practical, theoretical, and emotional considerations required at the various stages of the research process, drawing on the reflections and challenges experienced by over 40 other prison researchers both in England and Wales, and across the world. After introducing the rationale for prison research, its methodological and critical context, and covering basic practicalities, this book offers a range of tips and tricks for the prison researcher. It covers key topics such as ethics, the process of choosing methods, and looks at researching prisons around the world. It provides an overview of the key elements when undertaking a piece of prison research from start to completion, and draws on the experiences of a broad selection of global prison researchers. In doing so, it acts as a guide to those working in prison research and brings the prison research community to them. It is essential reading for students engaged with prison research methods and for early career researchers.

Volume 32, Number 2 (2023) is a general issue of the Journal of Prisoners on Prisons (JPP) edited by Kevin Walby and Justin Piché. Dedicated to the memory of former JPP Dialogue Editor Sarah Speight, the collection features contributions on various issues, including life sentences and barriers to obtaining parole, the perils of prison reform, institutional culture, facility crowding, education initiatives, as well as homophobia and transphobia behind bars.
