That is full. This is full. From the full, comes the full. Remove the full from the full and what remains? The full. Thus begins the Isha Upanishad, one of the most profound ancient books of faith. Mahatma Gandhi had famously said that if all scriptures happened all of a sudden to be reduced to ashes and only the first verse of the Isha Upanishad was left in our memory, Hinduism would live for ever. The Upanishads has now been expanded and brought out in two volumes, with much new material published for the first time in book form. The single volume The Upanishads has been discontinued, with all its content included in the two new volumes, each available as an independent book. The Kena Upanishad is concerned with the relation of mind-consciousness to Brahman-consciousness , writes Sri Aurobindo in his commentary on this work. The material world and the physical life exist for us only by virtue of our internal self and our internal life. According as our mental instruments represent to us the external world, according as our vital force in obedience to the mind deals with its impacts and objects, so will be our outward life and existence. The Upanishads mischievously show you a contradiction, and now you are flabbergasted because one contradiction is enough to bring down your entire mental palace. A thousand things are not sufficient to verify the truth, but one exception is enough to nullify the truth. Is it not so? After all, what is the Truth? That which continues without interruption and without exception, right? That is the Truth. This is a ladder between two dimensions, and that's the task of the Upanishad or the teacher. The world of the mind is being helped to meet the Transcendental.
