This publication is targeted at current and prospective official financiers of the Asian Development Bank’s grant and loan operations. It explains the wide range of financing options available to partners seeking to expand their commitment to developing the Asia and Pacific region. It also provides case studies showing how donor contributions make service delivery more effective and how they improve the lives of poor people. Finally, this publication outlines where donor funds can best support ADB’s core areas of operation under Strategy 2020.

This publication presents a snapshot of the Asian Development Bank's (ADB) environmental strategies, programs, initiatives, partnerships, and a range of activities that demonstrate ADB's commitment to support environmentally sustainable growth in Asia and the Pacific---a strategic agenda of ADB's Strategy 2020. The report highlights innovations designed in selected ADB-supported projects with environmental sustainability as a theme that were approved in 2008–2010. It also discusses the emerging environmental challenges in the region, and previews ADB's strategies to strengthen its operational emphasis on the environment, including climate change, that would help realize green growth in Asia and the Pacific.

ADB became a Task Force for Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) supporter in November 2021 and this report represents ADB’s first climate-related financial disclosures under the TCFD framework. This publication provides an overview of ADB’s progress in implementing recommendations in the four thematic areas identified by the TCFD framework: governance, strategy, risk management, and metrics and targets. It also presents proposed future actions to integrate climate-related risks and opportunities into the core of ADB’s business strategy and decisions.

Emissions trading challenges the management of companies in an entirely new manner: Not only does it, like other market-based environmental policy instruments, allow for a bigger flexibility in management decisions concerning emission issues. More importantly, it shifts the mode of governance of environmental policy from hierarchy to market. But how is this change reflected in management processes, decisions and organizational structures? The contributions in this book discuss the theoretical implications of different institutional designs of emissions trading schemes, review schemes that have been implemented in the US and Europe, and evaluate the range of investment decisions and corporate strategies which have resulted from the new policy framework.

This evaluation focuses on the Asian Development Bank (ADB) interventions to stimulate energy efficiency investments in industry and buildings. Among the key findings is that energy pricing and market imperfections need to be addressed to promote energy efficiency investments.
