Owing to the unavoidable absence of Rev. Lucian Johnston, Of Baltimore, who was to have read a paper on the Attitude of Science towards Religion (1874 Parker Thomas Moon, m.a. Of Columbia University, read the first paper, entitled: The Catholic Social Movement in France under the Third Republic. This was followed by a paper Benedict X V and the Historical Basis for Thomistic Study, by Rev. Henry Ignatius Smith, o.p., ph.d., Of the Catholic University Of America. One of the Latin lives of the saint begins in the following poetic manner: There was a man of venerable life, Brendan by name, who, like the glowing dawn, dispelled the darkness of sin from the hearts of many, and afforded an infallible guidance to the port of salvation for those who were wandering in the sea of Vice.12 According to some of our sources, Brendan was baptized at what is now called Tubber na molt, the wedders' well, in the town land of Tubrid, not far from Ardfert.
