Providence has an old and rich hockey tradition. The Providence Reds were one of the first professional hockey teams in the United States. In their 51-year history (1926-1977), the Reds won seven playoff championships, including four Calder Cup titles. The Reds were the first minor-league hockey team to operate for 50 seasons. The Providence Bruins, established in the 1992-1993 season, carry on the city's great hockey legacy and gave Providence its fifth Calder Cup title. Several Hockey Hall of Famers have played for Providence-based teams, including Bobby Bauer, Hector "Toe" Blake, Johnny Bower, Frank Brimsek, Eddie Giacomin, Rod Langway, Milt Schmidt, and Lorne "Gump" Worsley.

Forever Faithful celebrates the history of Cornell hockey, focusing on twenty-four memorable games played by the men's and women's teams since the opening of Lynah Rink in 1957. The foreword was written by Ken Dryden (Cornell '69), who led the Big Red team to its first NCAA championship in 1967, won six Stanley Cups with the Montreal Canadiens, and is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame. The narrative begins with an early history of the program, when games were played outdoors on Beebe Lake, and moves on to chapters celebrating the rituals and traditions of the Lynah Faithful and the key rivalries of both the men's and women's teams. Game accounts follow, each one featuring insights from coaches and players who were involved and illustrated by many color and black-and-white photographs of the players and game action. The book concludes with an appendix that lists key statistics and accomplishments of the men's and women's programs.

Over the past forty-five years, Friar basketball has captured the attention of sports fans in Rhode Island and throughout New England. From humble beginnings, the small Dominican school on Smith Hill in Providence has produced a story reminiscent of David and Goliath. The legend persists: tiny Providence College taking on and beating the big boys of college basketball. Run on a shoestring budget in the 1950s and 1960s, the program rose up out of nowhere to pull upset after upset. The school went on to dominate college basketball in New England, recording more postseason tournament games and victories, more twenty-win seasons, more All-Americans, and more players in the pros than any school in the region. Providence College Basketball: The Friar Legacy examines the seventy-five-year history of Friar hoops and celebrates the great players, coaches, games, and moments that have made Providence College basketball so unforgettable. Relive the annual trips to the National Invitation Tournament, the two Final Fours, and discover how Rhode Island became hooked on the Friars.
