Very often, the Father gives to His children special presents! They are given, along with thousands of other blessings, on a daily basis, and if we are truly honest with ourselves and look at these presents, we will be all the more grateful! This is an account based on the facts presented in the Bible, and largely on the prophetic Scriptures. I realize that many in the church-those who claim to be Christians-will not allow themselves to believe on these Scriptures. This is heartbreaking, for I believe this will be to their great harm! This book will try to convince the reading Christian of how truly dear he or she is to the Father, and how He longs for us to be close to Him in His Son. (And no, it isn't inspired, but God did through His Word turn the lights on!) This is more than a bedtime story for children of all ages. My hope is that it will be a great encouragement-for though we may grow a bit weary in our journey, we still enjoy the good fight. We are very dear to the One who has already won it, and He looks forward to greeting us on the other side . . . And men everywhere should seek Him with a new zeal, for He will soon rise to shake violently the earth! Even so, come Lord Jesus!

Everyone hears a lot about Gods promises, but seldom are they grasped and claimed for themselves. We often see them as words of what we can hope for but fail to see what we can actually expect. When it comes to the salvation of our descendants, why nestle our hope amidst a sea of doubt-laden anxiety? As time passes and prayers seem unanswered, why merely cling to what we believe is dwindling hope when we can joyfully come to expect in their personal resolve to follow Jesus? Gods Word is explicitly clear in how and why we can rest in this expectancy. This book seeks to study these promises more deeply and explain why a covenant with our Lord can give us our blessed assurance that well share the kingdom with our heirs our heirs of salvation.

What does your spiritual DNA look like? In terms of your spiritual identity, where do you come from and where are you going? We live in an age when many Christians have experienced several denominational and religious communities. Many wonder what to do with these experiences. At the same time many congregations are made up of people who come from different traditions, and the question is how to bring these diverse experiences into the life of the congregation in an enriching way. If we take as our starting point, the call of Abraham and Sarah to take a journey to an unknown land with the promise that their descendants would be a blessing to the nations, what might this look like in terms of our spiritual lives? Join with the author as he draws on his spiritual journey that has taken him into several denominational traditions, as well as his experiences as a pastor and historical theologian, to discern values and concepts that can help congregations and individuals make sense of their diverse spiritual experiences, so that together we might fulfill the Abrahamic calling, reaffirmed in Christ, to be a blessing to the nations.

The Scripture readings for Year C of the Common Lectionary (Revised) pair the Gospel of Luke, rich in its unique stories surrounding Jesus’ birth, Jesus’ care for the marginalized, and parables at once beloved and profound, with Old Testament and epistolary testimony to life-imparting faith in God’s promises. Bruce Taylor’s homiletical proclamation through the first half of Year C expounds the gospel’s summons to live today in hopeful reliance upon all that God has pledged to those who trust the Bible’s testimony to God’s faithfulness. Like his previous collections of sermons for the Sundays and feast days of the Christian year, the penultimate volume in this veteran preacher’s second journey through the lectionary is theologically rich, sacramentally oriented, and ecumenically sensitive, celebrating the church’s unity and community as witness to Christ’s living presence in the world. The sermons, including representative story sermons, speak as powerfully to clergy as to laity, to seminarians as to parishioners, evoking ardent commitment and lives characterized by gratitude, grace, hospitality, humility, and love. This book will be a welcome addition on the bookshelf or, better, on the desk and nightstand.
