Das vorüegende Buch verfolgt ein systematisches und philologisches Anüegen gleichermaßen, weshalb es auch in verschiedener Weise gelesen werden kann. Der systematisch interessierte Leser wird sich mehr durch den ersten Teil angesprochen fühlen, in dem ein Interpretationsansatz zu Hegels Idee einer Realphilosophie vorgestellt wird. Das philologische Interesse wird dann eher im zweiten Hauptteil befriedigt, der eine ausführüche Detailanalyse der „Philosophie des subjektiven Geistes" durchführt. Trotzdem üegen hier nicht zweierlei Bücher vor, die man gut auch getrennt hätte pubüzieren können, denn der systematische Interpretationsansatz wird erst durch die anschüeßende Detailanalyse belegt sowie auch die komparatorische Form der Kommentierung, die in der „Einleitung" nähere Erläuterung finden wird, sich erst vor dem Hintergrund jenes Interpretationsansatzes als sinnvoll erweist. Auch wenn sich also beide Hauptteile mit einem fokussierten Interesse getrennt voneinander lesen lassen, so bedarf doch die Argumentation dieses Buches beider Teilstücke, um vollständig zu sein.

Der 2008 erschienene erste Teilband (GW 25,1) umfasst die Nachschriften zu den Vorlesungen 1822 und 1825, die Hegel auf der Basis der ersten Auflage seiner »Enzyklopädie der philosophischen Wissenschaften im Grundrisse« (1817) gehalten hat. Der zweite Teilband (erschienen 2011) enthält die Textzeugen des Kollegs 1827/28 (die Nachschrift Stolzenberg mit Varianten aus den Nachschriften Erdmann und Walter), das Hegel an Hand der zweiten Auflage der »Enzyklopädie « (1827) vorgetragen hat. Weiterhin enthält der Band als »Sekundäre Überlieferung« die auch auf der Basis von Vorlesungsnachschriften edierten »Zusätze« des Bandes 7 der »Sämtlichen Werke« Hegels von 1845. Damit liegen sämtliche Materialien zu diesem ersten Teil der Geisteslehre vor. Mit dem dritten Teilband werden nun der Editorische Bericht und die Anmerkungen vorgelegt, die umfassend über die edierten Manuskripte und die Fülle des historischen und zeitgenössischen Materials Auskunft geben, das Hegel kritisch zu einem eigenständigen Entwurf verarbeitet hat, den er den sich bereits abzeichnenden Tendenzen zu einer positivistischen und reduktionistischen Wissenschaftsentwicklung entgegengestellt hat.
