The Chairman. Gentlemen, we will proceed with the consideration of the resolution introduced by Mr. Wilson of Pennsylvania. Mr. Wilson, we will hear from you. STATEMENT OF HON. WIIIIAM B. Excerpt from Hearings on House Resolution No. 179, Authorizing the Committee on Labor to Investigate Conditions Existing in the Westmoreland Coal Fields of Pennsylvania: Hearings Held Before the Committee on Rules, House of Representatives, May 31, 1911 Mr. Wilson. After the discharge of the men, and when t e mass meeting was held for the purpose of considering what line of policy they Should pursue for the protection of the men who had been dis charged and the means of securing their reinstatement, being in for a lamb they considered that they might just as well be hung for a sheep. So they included in their resolution a demand for an increase in wages that would put them on a basis with the Pittsburg field.
