He Was There was written to give glory, honor, and praise to God, who is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, the Author and Finisher of our lives. As I journey through life, I find that He has been my constant companion. When I was lost, He guided me. Through the storms, He has been there.Behold, I have given you the power to tread upon serpents and scorpions and upon the full force of the enemy and nothing will harm you. (Luke 10:19)There are no limitations as to what He can do through us, when we become vessels and allow ourselves to be used by Him. We can live here on earth in the power of heaven by joining every part of our lives to God, including our hearts, wounds, struggles, and desires. Only then can we be complete in Him. We are called by His name to be called into the deep, that we might experience His love and blessings, the deep waters of faith, worship, and His presence. No matter what happens in the world, in our lives, remember we are not home; we are only journeying through.Today, as individuals, a country, and the world, we face a deadly storm, the coronavirus, COVID-19. If there ever was a time that we need for Him to be there, it is now.

In He Is There and He Is Not Silent, Francis Schaeffer—philosopher, popular speaker, and founder of L’Abri Fellowship in the Swiss Alps—addresses some of the most perplexing questions to believers and unbelievers alike: Does God exist? Does it make sense to believe in God? Can we ever know God? During his life, Francis Schaeffer welcomed questioners and doubters from all walks of life to L’Abri Fellowship. For Schaeffer, Christianity expressed the ultimate truth. That is why he never shunned doubts and questions by honest seekers. He knew the truths in the Bible would always prove themselves when they were thoroughly investigated by an open mind and heart. From the intriguing, late-night discussions at L’Abri came a series of compelling books from Francis Schaeffer—The God Who Is There, Escape from Reason, True Spirituality, and this classic book every Christian should own, He Is There and He Is Not Silent.

Why does God feel so far away? Why is my worship so empty? Has God left me? David Bowden knows these questions firsthand, having wrestled for years with God’s apparent absence and studying what the Bible says about it. In this new book, Bowden tackles the subject head-on, finding the key to understanding it in the Bible’s depiction of a God who is infinitely far from us, free to move where he wants, but who chooses to come near in the person of Jesus. A resource of encouragement for those who struggle with feeling God’s absence and a wake-up call to those who take God’s presence for granted, When God Isn’t There will forever change your understanding of why God sometimes seems to vanish and how he can be found again. Praise for the work of David Bowden “Awesome and inspiring.”—Blake Mycoskie, Founder and Chief Shoe Giver at TOMS Shoes “David brings a fresh, engaging and highly impactful approach to Scripture. His passion for the Word is both contagious and inspirational.” —Roy Peterson, President of American Bible Society

Can you be an atheist and still believe in God? Can you be a true believer and still doubt? Can Zen give us a way past our constant fighting about God? Brad Warner was initially interested in Buddhism because he wanted to find God, but Buddhism is usually thought of as godless. In the three decades since Warner began studying Zen, he has grappled with paradoxical questions about God and managed to come up with some answers. In this fascinating search for a way beyond the usual arguments between fundamentalists and skeptics, Warner offers a profoundly engaging and idiosyncratic take on the ineffable power of the “ground of all being.”

Is He Out There? is an interdisciplinary examination of the Christian reaction to Dawkinss The God Delusion. That reaction has offered a wide range of counter-arguments, among them: that Dawkinss demonstration of how God almost certainly doesnt exist addresses an out-dated conception of God; that science and religion are not conflictual as Dawkins contends and indeed may well be converging upon an understanding of how God acts in the universe; that Dawkinss denigration of the Bible depends on an overly literal reading; and that Dawkins assumes a narrative of progress in which human beings take the place of God in controlling the course of history. Is He Out There? responds to these arguments in the context of current scientific understanding, biblical criticism and philosophy. Paul Laffan demonstrates how the desire to meet the challenge posed by Dawkinss viewpoint has led to the perversion of scientific theories and accepted positions in other important fields of inquiry. It suggests that Christianity is wedded to a God who is the cause of the universe a classical conception of cause that is anachronistic; that denying the Bible was read for most of the Christian era as offering a literal account of divine creation is a significant misrepresentation of doctrinal history; and that a complete dismissal of progress requires the dismissal of scientific achievement. The author considers the extent to which attractive, secular values like tolerance and freedom of opinion are Christian in source and whether moral systems require God to underwrite them. The wide-ranging nature of Is He Out There? not only provides a review of the state of contemporary Christian apology but is a measured address of the arguments put forward in The God Delusion and indeed of the substantive commentary on Dawkinss thesis.

Behind every face is a name, and every name has a story. They don't all command headlines, but each of them matters. Their stories differ. Some are long; others are short. They move in all directions, at different speeds and intensities. Inevitably, they crisscross, intersect and collide. "Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around, he leaves an awful hole." Is it chance that the right people are at the right place at the right time when we need them? Or does an unseen hand number our days and order our steps?
