Fifty One Etudes

Perhaps Dotzauer's most famous cello work is his 113 Etudes in four volumes. Masterfully prepared by him, this edition is a reprint of the authoritative G. Schirmer plate 26746 printed around 1917. Book 2 of the Famous Op. 31 Forty Melodic and Progressive Etudes for Cello, comes as a direct reprint of the original authoritative Carl Fischer edition from New York in 1907. Plate 10763_28. Wonderful clean edition, easy to read, back of the book has blank pages for notes and staff paper for teacher annotations and variations to be written. 35pps, 8.5"x11", Glossy cover. Brahms composed these melodic finger exercises for use in preparation for performing his more challenging piano works. They encompass a great many technical problems found in piano music composed up to and including the Romantic period. Great emphasis is placed on finger independence as well as on the total independence of hands.

These are the only etudes Grigoriev composed specifically for tuba. They are very musical with a distinctive Russian style. Grigoriev makes use of every major and minor key, legato and marcato styles, and wide range. Although conceived for BBb tuba, these etudes work well for all tubas including CC, F and Eb.
